What is daily life like for ordinary people living amidst escalating violence in the Middle East? Beyond the headlines and political statements, local communities continue to face fear, uncertainty, and the daily struggle for dignity.
As a member of our network, PAX, the Dutch peace organisation, has collected testimonies from their long-standing partners in Yemen, Iraq, Palestine, Syria, Lebanon, and Israel. These voices provide an intimate window into realities that are often overlooked in public debate.
A Human Lens on Geopolitical Conflict
The report highlights how global tensions, including the threat of escalation between Iran and Israel, are felt at a deeply personal level.
- In Yemen, partners describe how a decade-long war continues to disrupt basic life, leaving families without security or perspective.
- In Iraq, people speak of the lingering trauma of conflict and the fear that new violence may once again destabilize fragile communities.
- In Palestine and Israel, testimonies capture both the devastation of current hostilities and the fragile efforts to maintain hope and dialogue amidst polarisation.
- In Syria and Lebanon, daily survival under economic collapse and political paralysis is compounded by anxiety over wider regional escalation.
Together, these perspectives reveal what often escapes international coverage: the everyday human cost of geopolitical rivalries, the dread of renewed conflict, and the resilience of communities who continue to hope for peace despite all odds.
Why These Voices Matter
At a time when discussions about the Middle East are dominated by geopolitical strategies, military calculations, and diplomatic tensions, testimonies like these remind us that wars are lived most directly by civilians. Concerns about nuclear threats, displacement, and forgotten wars highlight the urgent need for renewed attention to human security and peacebuilding.
