A Royal Encounter: Dutch Network Meets HRH Princess Rym Ali in Tirana

24 juni 2025

One of the most meaningful moments for the Dutch Network of the Anna Lindh Foundation during the 2025 ALForum in Tirana was a private meeting with Her Royal Highness Princess Rym Ali of Jordan, President of the Anna Lindh Foundation.

In a reflective exchange, Kees Hulsman and Romana Moussa had the opportunity to present the Network’s vision for a Euro-Mediterranean University Network, a collaborative initiative centred on:

  • Media literacy
  • Interdisciplinary education
  • Academic research and countering disinformation
  • Empowering youth as ambassadors of peace

HRH Princess Rym Ali—renowned for her commitment to independent journalism and intercultural understanding—expressed sincere interest and encouragement for the initiative. Her presence at the Forum served as a strong reminder of the importance of principled leadership in promoting cultural dialogue and knowledge-based collaboration.

This meeting also reaffirmed a long-standing connection between Kees and the Royal Jordanian family. Kees first met HRH Prince Hassan bin Talal in 2008, who recognized the work of Arab-West Report as a valuable “vector for change” in fostering intercultural dialogue. The shared values from that initial encounter have since been carried forward—now renewed through discussions with HRH Princess Rym Ali.

The initiative continues to gain momentum. On 3 July 2025, Kees Hulsman will present a statement at the United Nations in Geneva titled: “The Impact of Misinformation on Freedom of Expression and Opinion.”

We extend our deep gratitude to HRH Princess Rym Ali for her support and inspirational leadership, and we look forward to building on this shared commitment to truth, trust, and dialogue across the Euro-Mediterranean region.
