7 October Commemoration at the World Peace Flame in The Hague
7 October 2026
On 7 October 2026, representatives of Jewish, Muslim, Christian and humanist organisations gathered at the World Peace Flame outside the Peace Palace in The Hague to commemorate the civilian victims of the Hamas-led attacks of 7 October 2023 and the violence that followed.
The attacks killed approximately 1,200 people in Israel, most of them civilians. The ensuing period saw Israel’s devastating war in Gaza, intensified settler violence against Palestinians in the West Bank, widespread destruction in southern Lebanon, Israeli air strikes and the occupation of additional territory in Syria, and war between Israel and Iran. These conflicts have claimed tens of thousands of lives, including many civilians.
Mayor Jan van Zanen addressed the gathering, as did Hanneke Gelderblom, an adviser to our Dutch Anna Lindh Foundation network. She is also an ambassador for Vrouwen voor Vrede Den Haag, one of our network’s member organisations.
